We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday spent at “Croagh Patrick Lodge” in Murrisk, Co. Mayo. The “family” consisted of 6 adults, 2 teenage boys and 3 small boys and we spent a week in this most beautiful part of Ireland.
From the warm welcome we received from the owner Linda, to our sad departing, nothing was wanting in this Lodge. The house is tastefully decorated with a mix of the old and the new; allowing for a very relaxed atmosphere throughout. There is a large lounge area with a stove fire, burning logs, and a sun room which provides space to relax and just gaze out at the views or read a book, play board games or for the boys to play without disturbing anyone who just wanted to watch telly. The kitchen area provided ample space to comfortably prepare meals for 11 people. Everything needed to prepare and cook meals was provided, including dishwasher to do that “hated” job!
Upstairs we had 5 bedrooms, all with very comfortable beds, offering a good night’s sleep - 3 with en-suite. But the “winning room” was the family suite with 2 bedrooms where the 3 boys could sleep with Mam and Dad close at hand, their own bathroom and the telly which kept them in bed a little longer in the mornings!!
At the front there is a large drive-way offering ample parking space while at the rear there is a large patio area and lawn.
The house is spectacularly situated at the foot of Croagh Patrick. From any window at the back of the house one can watch the endless stream of pilgrims climbing the mountain and from the front enjoy wonderful views of Clew Bay with its many islands, across to the Nephin Mountains.
Situated on the “Wild Atlantic Way” the house is ideally situated to drive south on the “Way” towards Connemara and Clifden and on to Galway or north to the top of the County taking in the wonderful views this area has to offer.
For families or groups of friends looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives, this Lodge is the ideal “get-away”. We highly recommend this property and will have no hesitation in returning.
