"There are not enough stars....LOVE this hotel"
Celebrating a wedding anniversary, mid week stay for 2 nights on “taste of Ireland” package.
Firstly the hotel- amazing castle. Attention to detail is meticulous. Rooms are beautiful. Have stayed in various rooms
and suites here over the years, I’ll always recommend upgrading(!) but the standard rooms are lovely.
Ashford for me is all about relaxing. The grounds have lovely walks & Cong (for those Quiet Man movie fans!) is a short walk away. Played the 9 hole golf course, green fees complimentary and was very enjoyable, despite the winter conditions. One morning we did a one hour forest walk with 2 Irish wolf hounds linked to the castle. It was superb- their owner was sharing lots of information and the dogs themselves are magnificent. Would highly recommend. Tennis courts, falconry, horse riding and Lough Corrib boat trip also available, but we didn’t do these.
There is also a spa in the hotel. We didn’t get any treatments, but used the relaxation areas/pool/steam room. All very nice, in particular the pool area.
Various options for food in the castle and grounds. We are in the Dungeon restaurant on the 1st evening, which was ok. The star dining experience was dinner in the George V restaurant - really excellent food, superb menu, great wine list, all in a beautiful dining room. Breakfast was amazing, tons of options. You could spend the day eating breakfast! Lunch also good. We did afternoon tea which was lovely, lots of food so be warned!
The thing that has brought us back to Ashford is the staff. Right from greeting at the front gate through to checkout, Ashford has an incredible team of people. Nothing is too much trouble. I cannot commend them highly enough, the Ashford team is an example of what customer service should be. The team at Ashford set themselves apart from other luxury hotels in Ireland. As I mentioned earlier, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and we were treated to multiple celebratory touches throughout our stay.
Some may question the price to stay at Ashford. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it- absolutely, 100%. It is value for money- yes, without a doubt. It is 5 star from start to finish. Highly, highly recommend a visit.
