Area The large village of Lyneham is situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Hills, in rural northern Wiltshire, close to the border with Gloucestershire. Lyneham is probably best remembered as the base of the RAF’s Hercules fleet; the base was closed in 2012 and now hosts a Defence Training College. The village is well served by local businesses, including restaurants, pubs and shops, whilst the larger community of Royal Wootton Bassett is just 4 miles away. The friendly market town of Wootton Bassett was granted Royal patronage in 2011, due to its link with the repatriation of military personnel who sadly lost their lives serving their country overseas.
Region Visitors to the Cotswolds have long treasured memories of charming towns and villages built from the famous honey-coloured stone, it now boasts a thriving community of contemporary artists working from studios and shops throughout the area.
