The Long House: Mayo

The Long House is located within a beautiful and tranquil setting on the shores of Lough Corrib. With an acre of garden and its own private jetty for a boat mooring the property offers great flexibility for a short break or a longer stay.

Set within an area of outstanding natural beauty and rare wildlife conservation, The Longhouse faces west over Lough Corrib with stunning views and romantic sunsets towards Connemara.

The house is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with rare wildlife conservation. It's garden sweeps down to the water's edge with direct access onto the Lake.

In a tranquil setting close to the historic village of Cong and 40 minutes from the vibrant city of Galway, the property is situated in an acre of grounds with a bluebell wood in Spring and daffodils at Easter.

It is completely secluded with marshland to the rear of the house which is a haven for wild birds including the shy Water Rail.
Migratory ducks, swans and geese visit our bay and the beautiful call of the curlews echoes over the water from the lake's Islands. On still days trout leap from the water and perch gather in the shallows.

The house has a cosy, rustic charm with a spacious, kitchen dining room including a Lacanche Range cooker and log burner. Glass sliding doors give direct access onto the garden and patio area.

The large lounge has a TV, stereo system and an open fire, floor to ceiling windows offer views over the lake. There is a family bathroom with shower and jacuzzi corner bath, five bedrooms( 3 doubles and 2 twins ) Three of the bedrooms have en suite shower rooms . A games room with football table and dartboard leads onto a utility room.

Great house, lovely location We got back from our vacation in Ireland just over a week ago, and I miss the Long House and Lough Corrib. The Long House is very well-equipped, with everything needed for a family gathering, including a fantastic kitchen with room enough to accommodate all eight of us and then some, a wood burning stove, and lots of dishwear and pots and pans. The oven runs a bit hot, but we were able to sort that out, and, honestly, cooking two whole chickens to perfect tenderness was not the worst thing that happened to our very hungry group. The location is delightful, with the lake right out the back door. I would recommend water shoes, as it is fairly rocky, but we were able to wade in and swim out carefully, the water was fine! We had planned to fish as well, but time did not allow - shame, since there are clearly many fish in the lake. With Galway an easy 45 minutes away, and Cong and a number of other small towns and historical sites within 10 to 20 minutes, the house is well situated for day trips. Tim is very responsive, and came to address some small issues right away, a great host altogether. Thank you, Tim, for welcoming us into your home, and paving the way to a great holiday!

An absolute gem!! This house is a true gem. It is a magical spot directly on the lake with gorgeous views from the kitchen and living room that draw you out and indeed every room really. Beautifully appointed with so many lovely touches, there was ample room for our large group to be extremely comfortable. Loved that the kitchen has a big enough table to accommodate us all. We will definitely return again and highly recommend it to all.

A wonderfully peaceful location, with excellent access to Lough Corrib We had a lovely week staying at this cottage, its location is outstanding. We stay in many cottages in Scotland and now Ireland, and found this to be reasonably equipped, however the bedrooms are very basic and the cottage could do with some gentle updating. The bedroom windows only have small openable ports, which prevent much airflow and one of the ensuite showers flooded due to a blockage, soaking the carpet and rendering the room unusable for most of our stay. The only real concern was that we had to clean both the kitchen and main bathroom on arrival. I hope this was a one off, but the loo had been left apparently uncleaned. Do go and stay, its a great spot, but a little repair and replacement could make this cottage 5*

"Beautiful location in a great place!" We loved this house - it truly was a long house, so that as many rooms as possible could take advantage of the view over Lough Corrib. Although we were a small group, this would have been great for a larger family as there was plenty of space for everyone. Kitchen could have used a few more cooking items (like baking sheets), but we still made some delicious meals with what we had available. Super relaxing and quiet for good sleeping, and tons to do in the area during the day. I hope we will be back!

Tims house was fantastic, it had everything you'd need for a lovely, chilled little getaway which was exactly what myself and 7 friends were after. The house was perfectly presented throughout and felt very warm and inviting. The cosy log fire upon arrival was a lovely touch. The location was perfect; not only are there long walks around the national parks and opportunities to explore the quaint villages but the the house itself sits in the most fantastic situation with the water running along the drive way and the mountains in the background. Thanks for a lovely stay Tim.

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is very well equipped with everything you could need and the setting on the lake is stunning. Tim gave us very good directions, was very flexible with arrival/ departure times and also responded very promptly to any messages. We would definitely like to stay again and would recommend the accommodation for anyone wanting a quiet escape.
