The Great Lake: California

When you don't want to compromise on location, views or style, this lodge in the heart of Big Bear Lake has it all. Its position, only a seven-minute walk from the lake, gives way to panoramic views of the mountains and Boulder Bay. Appreciate it from the hot tub or around the fire pit on the elevated terrace. Kayak rental is an option – you'll find the hire store side by side with shops and restaurants a short stroll away. As for the home, it's homely and spacious, and the private bar and small cinema room with a projector are a nice bonus.

Home truths:
*Hen and stag parties are strictly not allowed at this home. Your host asks that you please respect quiet hours between 10pm and 7am.
*We suggest hiring a car for ease – there's parking space for up to three cars here.
*There are stairs to climb here, so it won't be the best option for those with limited mobility.
*If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a high chair, stair gates and fireplace guards for free. You'll need to request them in advance.
*During the winter, some outdoor furniture and equipment may not be available - please ask your host for more information.
