Callow Lodge 15: Shropshire

Holiday home
The Callow Lodge is a luxury detached timber lodge, exclusively for adults of 25 and over on the award-winning Beaconsfield Farm Holiday Park in Shropshire. The cottage offers two king-size double bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities, an open plan living area with fitted kitchen, dining table and a sitting area which leads to the deck which has outdoor furniture and the hot tub. Guests have the use of an indoor heated swimming pool (40'x20') and a steam room, whilst the park also offers a coffee shop, restaurant and fishing. The Callow Lodge is a truly special holiday cottage which is perfect for the discerning holiday maker who fancies some 5 star luxuries.

The Rose Award, 5 Pennant AA winning, 50-acre Beaconsfield Farm Holiday Park is exclusively for adults of 25 and over. It nestles in scenic Shropshire countryside, 4 miles from Shrewsbury, one of England's most picturesque Tudor towns. On the park, you can enjoy an indoor heated swimming pool, steam room and coffee shop, relax in the Bothy Restaurant with full a-la-carte menu, or enjoy a day's coarse or fly fishing. Shrewsbury offers a superb selection of shops, along with cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs and you can also visit the museums at Ironbridge, the castle and Michelin starred restaurants of Ludlow, or Stokesay Castle.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Cottage and facilities met expectations of information listed for a luxury lodge, however there were quite a few restrictions on use of facilities.. For example, hot tub rules, car access and the cafe was closed, even for takeout snacks (other than ice cream). This didn't actually effect our holiday but worth being clear for others. Also the restaurant opening times and checkout times had conflicting information causing some confusion as what is printed/advertised is not what we were verbally told (after the fact for the checkout which was the only real negative point of the stay as we felt we were rushed out before the printed time).
The welcome prosecco and provided essentials (e.g. dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid, shower gel, hairdryer), over and above what was listed were a pleasant surprise and could help if advertised.
The Croft restaurant deserves a special mention as this was extremely nice. We ate here on numerous occasions during our stay and enjoyed each and every meal - definitely worthwhile visiting but recommend booking.

Park was beautiful peaceful and very well maintained.. Location Idealic but still close to Shrewsbury for facilities. Lodges were to a very high standard. Staff were very welcoming helpful and friendly. Lovely Hot Tub Maintaned on a daily basis. Used most days I stayed. Took my Dog with me and she loved it. Decking around lodge secure for Dog. Small wood around lodges which my dog walked to and secure Exercise Paddock available which I took my dog to in morning and evening for a run around with her ball. Dogs kept on leads in park. Most visitors had dogs. Nice Swimming Pool. Good Fishing Facilities on Private Lakes only available to be used by Park Residents. Lots of Wildlife. Planning to book again.

We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the lodge also the spa temp had problems at the start but once mentioned within an hour it was fixed and lively to relax after a kind day out walking.. If there is one thing I would change it would be 3 seater settee not a two as we couldn’t lay down together.
Fantastically run food at the restaurant was very tasty and happy staff .

Exceptionally bad weather however grounds and car parking space were consistently sodden - this included water collecting in a quite deep puddle right at the bottom of the entry steps so no far to access the lodge without getting feet wet! Car parking space is shared with an adjacent lodge and can be quite tight; especially with an inconsiderate resident neighbour who obviously feels they have more entitlement to be there than we did!

The new Croft restaurant one site is lovely; however not being dog friendly on a holiday site which is seems to be a bit of an oversight and a missed opportunity.

Other than that; excellent!

Lodge was nice, location was peaceful and staff were friendly.. . We were disappointed when we arrived to be given a folder with an extensive list of rules and regulations ,none of which we had previously been made aware off on your website. .Rules included not using the hot tub after dusk, when our visit was in December this seemed very restrictive and visitors being charged parking and having to leave by a certain time, again seemed odd!! Although we enjoyed our visit we would not necessarily return due to all of the needless rules This is an adult only site and we felt that the rules contradicted that.

Very happy over all.. Arrived at night couldn't see the cabin as there were no numbers on 15 and unlit.
Sofa could have been bigger other than that very happy.

When we booked the lodge with sykes we were not told we had to leave a £75 good house keeping bond.. If we had known this we would have never booked the holiday
This should have been bought to our attention prior to booking the holiday-with yourselves
We feel that you have not been honest with us and misleading us by not mentioning this prior to booking

Brilliant break away! The only thing I can critize is the lack of signs directing you into the park from the village, there's one sign on a lamppost but it's easy to miss and the postcode we received did not take us to the park. However, after a quick look on Google we managed to find out way there. The park is clean, tidy and well maintained. The lodge was immaculate and the hot tub was already turned on and up heat when we arrived. The staff were really friendly and helpful and advised us on some great stuff to do and see while we stayed. The restaurant is small but after reading some rave reviews it didn't not disappoint the Sunday lunch is beautiful and very reasonably priced. I even managed to squeeze a good day's fishing in on a well stocked lake with plenty of fish caught. This park would not suite all audiences, it is adults only and would not suite certain parties such as hen/stag weekends as there is not a lot of night life in the village and the park bar is attached to the restaurant. However, for a nice relaxing break to escape and just relax this is the best Park to go!

Spent a week at this holiday park from 28th July.. Although the lodge was clean and the parks surroundings were lovely there are too many rules and regulations. It is supposed to be an adults only park yet you were treated like a child. Very disappointed to find no WiFi in the lodge and the housekeeping charge of £75 is extortionist. Owners quite abrupt and not very welcoming. The handbook that was given to you where just full of dos and don’ts and charges for this and that. Would not recommend this site and won’t be returning

The lodge is on a lovely site with very friendly and helpful staff. The lodge was very clean and warm. The beds were very comfortable, there is quite a bit of traffic noise from a near by road. W hat could make the lodge perfect would be a nice comfortable sofa and chairs you can chill out on and watch tv. They were very upright and the sofa very small. Could do with tv in the bedrooms. The hot tub was lovely after a long day of walking, but the decking and steps to lodge very slippy

The hot tub on the deck! We made use of this every day. The reception and general staff were very helpful, the site owners were extremely courteous and nothing was too much trouble for them. They gave us lots of information about the surrounding areas.

It was exactly what we were looking for, tranquillity! Had a very relaxed feel even in the communal parts of the park, the entire experience was wonderful. It was close to a handful of places you could grab a bite to eat. The lodge had a very welcoming feel, modern with a feel of homely comfort. Fab.

We have just returned today from 'Callow Lodge' and we must admit we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Lodge. Facilities impeccable. The site itself was very peaceful The staff are all very friendly both on site and at the 'The Bothy Restaurant'' - At the restaurant there was enough food served to feed an army so well worth every penny. Would recommend the lodge to anyone and we will certainly be visiting again - thank you again for a lovely stay Di n Dave

First of all, we really had a great holiday and have enjoyed every moment at Callow Lodge. Secondly, we want to thank you all, the staff were more than friendly and helpful indeed.
December 2012
We stayed at the Lodge for three nights. It is located on Beaconsfield Farm Park, which is a mixture of caravans and the lodges, which are set around a lake. The property was very clean and warm. The private hot tub on the deck outside was lovely, and very novel in cold and frosty weather. We used the swimming pool and steam room (extra charge) which were excellent. The lodge is very well situated for exploring the Shropshire area. As mentioned in a previous review, the lodge is right by the busy A49, and the railway line, which were both noisy, so if you like to sleep with the window open, it is worth taking earplugs. Make sure you visit the Dog in the Lane pub is nearby Astley, which is a two mile walk away, and well worth a visit.

January 2012
A very comfortable cottage, set in a convenient location for Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas. The only thing that we were slightly unhappy with was the proximity of the other cottages and the road noise from the a49. Having said this though, we had a great time and are considering booking another long weekend here.
August 2011
A very ideal place to spend some romantic time with someone you love
