Termon House, a former 18th-century land agent's house in Maghery, near Dungloe, is located in the heart of the Gaeltacht area.
The Marquis Conyngham built Termon House in the 1770s for his agent, but archaeological remains in the immediate surroundings (an old lime kiln and the remains of a clachan) indicate a much earlier occupancy.
The house has a stormy history. Local anecdotes and archaeological evidence present a picture of absenteeism, land clearance, and emigration. A beautiful and unique defensive Famine Wall still surrounds the house. The wall, a unique vernacular structure, was built around the house as the final public works project designed to alleviate suffering during the famine in 1847.

Very enjoyable stay but two nights was too short a visit. Termon house is a very relaxing house to return to, having explored nearby attractions such as Tory Island and Glenveagh national park. I will probably stay here again.

We had a great time at the Landmark Trust Termon House. The location is absolutely beautiful and the house functions perfectly with either four people (for two nights) or six (for two nights). I really enjoyed waking up looking at the sea.

5 of us enjoyed a really lovely and relaxing weekend in Termon House. You could not pick a lovelier location to get away from the stress of everyday life.

"Our favourite place"
This was our second stay at Termon House, and third at a Landmark Trust property. The house has been painted since our last stay and looked very welcoming. It was very comfortable and was a special place to spend some time, cook nice food and enjoy family time. We enjoyed the fires, game nights, the walks, listening to the sound of the sea, and this time our dog Bella came and had the time of her life! The children were very sad to leave and we can't wait to return again! Both Marjorie, and Irene in the LT office, were a pleasure to deal with and we always feel we are in good hands. Thank you all for another great stay!!
