We booked Sandbrook House for a special birthday celebration few days and we were blown away by the comfort, spaciousness and ambiance of the house. The interior of the house is both beautiful and practical. Perfect for our whole family – from 3 to 80 years old.
It served the purpose so well with lovely reception rooms and cosy but generous kitchen for a family gathering.

We stayed in Winter so the house came into its own with lovely fires in the lounges and dining room. Not to mention the gorgeous Christmas tree in the entrance hall.

Jackie the house manager was extremely helpful as was John the recommended chef who provided dinner for us.

All in all, we were so delighted with our choice of venue as were our guests who all want to return.

I could go on and on – giant bath tubs, books and board games in the lounge, sonos system throughout the house.

Quite simply lovely, relaxing place to spend a few days in the countryside and just an hour from Dublin.

We spent a glorious 4 nights at Sandbrook House. Upon entering the house, we felt immediately welcomed, by a large, decorated Christmas tree in the hallway.

The house was toasty warm, which is not an easy acheivement in a house of this size and age. Jackie, the wonderful and friendly housekeeper, had lit a fire in the library, which became a focal point for the adults over the stay. We had 8 kids with us, who were delighted by the house, which worked well in accommodating them.

Plenty of places to play, a cozy sleeping area for them on the top floor, and lots of places to explore, both inside and out. We breakfasted at the large table in one of the two kitchens, and saved the formal dining room for the adults, while the kids ate their evening meals at the kitchen table. The bedrooms were all comfortable, the Master Suite was exceptional, featuring a large bathroom which doubled up as a dressing area and general lounging spot, perfect for reading a book and getting away from it all. Personally, I loved the art on the walls, gorgeous old paintings, that left you with a feeling that you were at home, rather than in a hotel.

To be able to pick up a book in the library, sit down by the fire, and peruse for a while is my idea of luxury. A great selection of books there. The kitchen was also a perfect hangout area, many pots of tea were consumed there, we often had a pot on the go on the Aga. The kitchens were very well equipped – we did almost all of our own cooking, and the wealth of utensils, crockery and glasses, made the job of catering for 16 people a breeze.

The two dishwashers also took the pressure off. After dinners, we would retire to the drawing room for a drink and a chat. We were told by Jackie to head to the local butcher’s at Ballon if we needed any meat, which I did, and was not disappointed – the friendly butcher there sold me an outrageously good shoulder of locally-grown lamb.

Although our use of the house was one of a family get-together with kids, I could imagine that the house would work well for weddings or parties, too. Everything is there!

My overall impression of the house was that this was one that was loved by its owners, had been well-maintained and modernised over the years, yet had kept its overall character. The family photographs around the house helped with that impression. I would certainly recommend Sandbrook House to anyone, and will be returning, for sure.

It’s a gardeners paradise, after one night away, we felt we had got a great break.

There are things of interest to both men and woman to enjoy and look at, the apartment was so big and cosy.

The fridge full of yummy food was such a surprise, we ate all the brown bread with a large pot of tea on arrival, such a great choice from the teabag selection and the bed was so comfortable too. We visited nearby Altamont Gardens which was enjoyable, it’s definitely full of fond memories, this grand house. My husband thought it was a very well kept place and he has high standards. He enjoyed looking at all the steel work as that’s his thing too and especially the old vintage cars. I was stuck into looking at all the rose bush varieties and collection of named trees on site. The vegetable and fruit garden brought back childhood nostalgic memories. A great place for a rest, thanks again.

When we arrived for our weekend, we were greeted by stunning grounds that surrounded the house. When you walk through the house it has lots of character and a homely feeling. The back garden is where we spent the majority of our time between the seating areas enjoying the flowers and the views, it was beautiful and made the visit all the more enjoyable.

Thank you so much for a fabulous weekend. We adored every minute. It was just so lovely relaxing in beautiful surroundings, how lucky you are to be able to use that house all the time.

Had a peek at the barn, how fabulous! Very rustic and I could imagine a room full of people sitting around in candlelight! Very special setting. I will certainly recommend it if I hear of any private parties coming up. I’m sure once this covid pandemic is nearly over – there’ll be lots of parties and weddings again held there. I only remembered after I left I never wrote in the visitor book, it completely slipped my mind! Sorry!

Please do let us know if you ever have another weekend free like that again, maybe next year. The four couples thought it would be a great thing to do yearly, so we’d love it. I can imagine you’re very full with bookings.

Thank you for all your help, we adored our time.
