We wanted somewhere special to spend a weeks relaxing family holiday for my husbands birthday. We couldn't have chosen better. It is clean, cosy comfortable, yet roomy and well equipped with everything we needed, including a Tv and WiFi, so we could watch the World Cup! Its charm is in its traditional stone walls and wooden interior, nestling so perfectly in such a very beautiful natural landscape, just beyond its pretty gardens that slope gently down to the lake on its very doorstep. The view over the water to the mountains from the kitchen picture windows is genuinely breathtaking. There are neighbours dotted around in similar cottages not too far away, but you wouldn’t know it. The silence outside is only broken by gentle birdsong and lapping water. It is a truly peaceful haven. Having our own little rowing boat was an extra treat and we spent some happy hours just pottering around In it. As if this wasn’t, enough, we didn’t have to walk very far to find many exceptional, secluded beaches with soft white sand , rock pools , dunes and clear turquoise sea. We had some of them all to ourselves and none of them were at all crowded. When we wanted to venture further we didn't have to drive far. We ate really well in Roundstone and enjoyed a sail on a Galway Hooker , over 100 years old , from the little harbour. We had a lovely round of golf on the glorious Connemara Links course, only 3 miles away. We climbed a mountain just up the road for amazing views and we found supermarkets and more great places to eat just a few minutes away in Clifden. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a beautiful quiet retreat.

Very beautiful and comfortable accommodation. Full of character and very tastefully and thoughtfully furnished and equipped. The view over the loch to the mountains from the kitchen/dining area and the garden is to die for! What a treat to be greeted like that every morning at breakfast! The garden has lots of lovely little corners to sit in. The location is perfect - right on the loch shore and yet 5 minutes walk to an exquisite beach. It is a short drive to the lovely little town of Roundstone and not much further to lively Clifden. The gorgeous Gurteen and Dog Bays are an even shorter drive away. Peter, the owner, was very quick and helpful in dealing with our booking and any queries we had. A wonderful cottage in a magical location-we’ll definitely be back!”

It's hard to know where to start - we had the most amazing time at the cottage. My now wife and I booked our stay here to have an elopment style wedding ceremony with a few close friends. From the moment we booked our stay, Regina and John couldn't be more helpful, offering extra pictures of the cottage and asking if there was anything else they could do. When we arrived, they had added lil touches to the cottage to make it extra special for our stay. The setting and surroundings are breathtaking, and made for some amazing photos. The cottage itself has everything you could need for your stay, we in particular enjoyed the boat and kayaks, and then sitting by the fire in the evening and relaxing. The nearby beaches are also stunning. If it is just a few days away, or a special event like ours, I can't recommend this place enough. John and Regina are amazing hosts, always at the end of the phone if you need anything, and went above and beyond to make our special day even better.

The view from this property is absolutely stunning. The photos do not quite do it justice. We loved playing games around the table in the evenings while enjoying the incredible surroundings. The house is a bit old and creaky, but clean and cozy. Very well-stocked. We were left a bottle of wine and package of cookies on arrival, which was thoughtful. Thanks for the great stay!

"An absolute gem- tucked away and private location"
We must have driven past Maumeen Cottage hundreds of times over the past 40 years, hardly noticing it from the road. But this year was different- we are just back from two weeks in this most lovely of cottages! An absolute gem - tucked away and private but not isolated- beautiful, really comfortable, impeccably kitted out and with such a lovely atmosphere- an interior designer could be very inspired by the decorative choices! All very efficient with excellent wifi, and the option for a great open fire or instant central heating if needed. The uninterrupted views from the back directly on to the lake and beyond to the Connemara Pins are unbeatable, with a very naturally styled garden running down to the lake’s edge. As a vetern local visitors let me share some nuggets! We love and frequent the well known long sandy Gorteen, Dog’s Bay and Mannin beaches both for swimming and walking and the nearby sheltered little Calla beach. However, Dunloughan beach with its waves for surfers and bodyboarders still remains a fairly well kept secret! Accessed over a large common, with grazing Connemara ponies, there are no road signs, but ask at Keogh’s supermarket in Ballyconneely –it’s 10 mins from there. A cycle along the Bog Road is perfect for amateur cyclists, the road is almost deserted and the scenery is breathtaking. A few miles before Clifden at a bridge, there’s a sharp rt turn for the Bog Road and Roundstone. Find a suitable parking spot and start your cycle (aprx.1 hr). At the end of the road, turn back, or continue into Roundstone for refreshments! More energetically, the Bog Road loop from the cottage is 32km along both bog and coast roads. And do look up the Tour de Bog on line! There is a terrific new Saturday morning fish market on Bunowen pier- you need to be there by 9.30am. And lastly, if you want to see the beautiful classic Connemara ponies, watch out for the local pony shows through the summer in Clifden, Ballyconneely and Roundstone.

We simply could not have stayed in a lovelier cottage to enjoy our favourite part of the world- many thanks to our most helpful and efficient host Peter!

We arrived at Maumeen in the rain; not unusual for our trips to Connemara, but as soon as we saw the view through the kitchen window the weather no longer mattered! Our week at the cottage was a joy; the whole place traditional and cosy; the beds were comfortable and the shower hot and powerful. We didn’t need to make use of the open fires, as inviting as they looked, as it was too warm, though we were tempted! The space around the cottage was beautiful, and the views over the lake towards the mountains were just stunning. Everything we needed was provided, including Wi-Fi (an essential with teenagers), but the use of a rowing boat was an added bonus, one that my sons used on a twice daily basis! Connemara is the most wonderful place to have a relaxing holiday and is a place I have brought my boys here since they were very small –they love it every time. There are beautiful beaches very close by, breath-taking mountain walks and the gardens (not to mention a cream scone!) at Kylemore Abbey are not to be missed. We have stayed in a few different rental cottages in the area, all lovely, but this Cottage sits top of the list. We were sorry to leave and will be back. Thanks again for all your time and efforts – we had a wonderful week.

We enjoyed this house for one week in June, what was fantastic. The weather was a tiny bit chilly, but we could adjust heating with the fireplace or the heater. The area round about the house is great, direct in front you have this peaceful lake, 15min walk you have lonely beaches. Just 10min with the car is the awesome dog beach. And so many more things to do. The kitchen is fully equipped, the rooms are very comfortable and nice decorated. In the Garden you can go for sunbathing or just sitting to enjoy the quiet place. We had a wonderful time there, thank you Peter for hosting us.
