Ross Castle: Galway

Ross Castle Demesne provides refined elegance for exceptional occasions or a truly memorable vacation in Galway. The distinctive ambience of the Castle's grand rooms and self-catering cottages, accented with bespoke antique furnishings, will captivate you and up to 40 guests. The historic 120-acre lakefront estate is entirely immersed in a spectacular setting of mountains, lake, and parklands.

Developed in 1539 by The "Ferocious" O'Flaherty, one of the most distinguished tribes of Galway, the property was later acquired by the Martin Family who built the present manor house upon the former castle's foundation. After two fires and much neglect, the McLaughlin family acquired the estate and have spent several decades restoring the estate to its present splendour.

Guests are invited to enjoy all of the amenities: indoor heated swimming pool, Billiards room, tennis court, lake with boat/canoe/fishing gear, gardens, and trailed public forest at the estate's periphery. Ross is just a 20-minute drive from Galway City (Cathedral) and less than an hours drive of The Aran Islands, Cliffs of Mohar, salmon/trout fishing, golf courses and horseback riding.

"A WONDERFUL place for a group" Oh my goodness this place!! 12 of us stayed at the St. George accommodation last weekend for my sister's hen weekend. It was fabulous! Being February we had the place to ourselves with access to the tennis courts, boating on the lake, walks around the grounds and gardens, and a heated swimming pool! The weather was really cold so we didn't avail of the tennis or boating but made plenty use of the pool! The accommodation itself is amazing. Lovingly renovated and decorated. 6 double or twin rooms, all en suite with showers and baths. A little self catering kitchen area which was perfect for us. We couldn't believe how lucky we were to have hit on such a find! We watched rugby in the games room on the Saturday followed by some table tennis. Although we went out to Galway city to eat Saturday night, we didn't have to and could have happily stayed put the whole weekend. Moycullen and Oughterard are only 7km in either direction. We were a little late checking out (due to staying too long in the pool!) but Marshall, the lovely owner, never made us feel anything but welcome, despite having another booking after us, and we made the quickest possible exit. I'd recommend this place to anybody. Thank you Marshall!

Hen Party! We hosted our friends Hen Party in Park Hall, Ross Castle last weekend and we literally could not recommend it more! It was absolutely perfect for our big group. 19 of us stayed in Park Hall and a further 6 stayed in Catherine's Cottage next door. The venue is spotless and quirky and most of the bedrooms are ensuite. We used the beautiful big reception rooms in the Park Hall to host the celebrations, there was plenty of space and we seated 25 people comfortably. Marshall (the owner) is an absolute dream, she took such good care of us from beginning to end. She was a joy to deal with and made sure that we wanted for nothing during our stay. She recommended a local caterer (the lovely Martina) who delivered a delicious dinner on the Friday night and the works for brekkie on the Saturday morning. We were not a quiet group and could blast music into the wee hours and not have to worry about disturbing anybody. On the Saturday we were lucky with the weather so our group explored the beatiful gardens and lake surrounding Ross Castle. That afternoon, we did archery in a nearby activity centre - Eile Mental - It was only a 15 minute drive and was a great laugh. On the Saturday evening we got a private coach to and from Galway City, which is less than a 30 minute drive from Ross Castle. Marshall even allowed us to take our time packing up on Sunday. It was such a pleasant experience and it really was like our own home for the girly weekend. Thank you to Marshall, Ann and Padraig for looking after us so well!

"Quiet Manor in the Country" Ross Castle is the new home of my heart. Exploring Ireland was beautiful; nothing like the cities of Southern California. I never knew such beauty in the spirit of the land until being able to stay at Ross Castle for four days. Walking the quiet grounds at dusk was a true treat. The spry owners were extremely kind, lovely to speak with, and helpful. Having a full kitchen to cook meals was also lovely, as it saved some change in my pocket from eating out every night. I could not recommend this place enough. Come, stay. Explore. Find peace. Ross Castle is, of course old, and is maintained nicely. Linens are fresh and clean, bathrooms are sparkling, fluffy towels are provided. Bring your own toiletries as they are not provided like at a hotel. Kitchenettes are in each wing, and are a great way to cook your own meals and save money. The grounds are huge, the landscaping is meticulously kept up, and the people who work there are incredibly sweet.

"AMAZING!" We stayed here May 5th and 6th for my hen party and i cannot recommend this venue enough! Padraic and Margaret Mary were so helpful and the amenities were fantastic with a pool, billiards room, table tennis, tennis courts and even a church on site. We hired a local caterer for the Saturday night and there was plenty of room for 30 people to sit around the table in the main kitchen. Every single person on the hen weekend were raving about their stay and Padraic and Margaret Mary could not do enough for us :)
