Luxury Lighthouse
Crookhaven, Co Cork, Ireland

Luxury Lighthouse: Cork

Truly one of the great lighthouses of Ireland. It dates from 1843 and is surrounded by the original dwellings formerly occupied by the keepers of Fastnet Lighthouse, Mizen fog station and Crookhaven Lighthouse.

Nestled alongside the Lighthouse is the cottage built for the lighthouse keepers. The original cottage dates from 1843 and was fully renovated in 1999.

2008 saw the completion of an architect designed, light-filled new cottage. The daring design, with the living space upstairs, makes the most of the spectacular views.
It is the perfect location for the ultimate escape. Come and experience West Cork at its best.

The Long House
The Long House - completed in 2008 - is a beautiful light-filled space. The design contrasts the heavy stone construction of the existing structures with the transparency of the new upper level extension sitting lightly on them, and cantilevering through the free-standing screen wall to the east.

There are two double bedrooms, a bathroom and utility area downstairs.

Upstairs is a large open plan living area with a big glass frontage displaying the most magnificent sea-views. Large sliding doors open out onto a terrace. The ample old dining room table can sit 8 to 10 people comfortably. Alongside, the kitchen area opens out to a small terrace that captures the morning and evening sun. Comfortable sofa’s and chairs surround the modern stove/fireplace.

Built to the highest standards, with geo-thermal heating, a heat-recovery system and air conditioning it is a superbly relaxing environment. The seas and weather surround you.

The Original Cottage
The property consists of two structures. The original cottage, dating from 1843 was fully renovated in 1999 and re-decorated in 2019.

Downstairs it has a large hallway, two twin bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchenette, a marble-tiled shower room and a study (with a sofa bed). Upstairs, accessed through the study, has been transformed into a beautiful big living room with large roof windows looking out at the ocean below.

Furnished in a modern minimalist style, many of the old features of the cottage have been retained: the old doors with their heavy copper doorknobs; the stone floor in the hallway; and the wonderful old oak floorboards in the upstairs living room.

Special and beautiful place, amazing location and house, unforgettable family holiday!!
“This house and its stunning location blew us away!! It’s bright, warm, cosy and spacious, a beautiful piece of architecture, not to mention the fabulous views!! It was like being on a ship, surrounded by the ocean and the soothing sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks below. Everything you could need was there! A fantastic location with great beaches and villages nearby, locals so friendly. Had the most delicious and fresh crab sandwiches in Crookhaven in O’Sullivan’s bar! Overall an unforgettable few days with family, so much so we booked our next visit the day we got home!! If anyone is thinking of booking? just do it and go! you will not be disappointed!”

“We spent a really enjoyable break over Christmas with my sister’s family and parents who live on the other side of the harbour who joined us for Christmas celebrations. Thank you for the Christmas decorations you added. The accommodation split over the two lighthouse keepers cottages suited us very well as our older independent children had their own space. The location is stunning, the views inspirational and the house is cosy, stylish and was very well equipped for our needs, even the walled single lane track from the main road revealed a stunning view at every turn. Plenty to do here in winter. Who wouldn’t enjoy relaxing, playing board games, reading, walking (Brow Head, Barleycove beach, Three Castles Head pier, the old mountain road to Goleen) watching the wild life and whiling away time in pubs. We all wished we could have had more time at the lighthouse but even so, our short stay was very recuperative. A car is a must. Thank you for letting us stay.”
