A marigold marvel against the sapphire sky and green lawn that surrounds it, this home in Italy’s Lazio region looks portrait-perfect in all its colourful glory. Inside, arched stained glass doorways combine with an effusion of art, artisanal ceramics, exposed beam ceilings and terracotta tiles to create a kaleidoscope of colours and textures that dazzle as the sunlight pours through the chestnut wood windows and French doors on each side. Wake up in the comfortable bedrooms, enjoy your morning coffee on the terrace or catch up on some work – if you must – in the elegant, book-lined office. Spend the afternoon taking cool dips in the pool, soaking up the sun in the hammock and letting your competitive side out in a game or two of ping pong. With a playhouse and slide in the large garden too, there’s more than enough to keep all ages entertained. After a day of lounging in your own private oasis or driving ten minutes to Civita Castellana, known for its beautiful ceramics, come back home for drinks by the flower-filled stone fountain. Then fire up the wood-burning oven and the brick-built barbecue for a memorable alfresco dinner.
