Property Overview

2 Acres of Riverside Bliss in a Modernised 3 bed Cottage dating back to 1790

Spacious Teddington Cottage is new to this site, but We're No. 1 on Tripadvisor for our sister listing (The Boat House Inistioge), and are aiming just as high for Teddington!

Enter through the majestic gates of Woodstock Desmesne and hopefully collect some organic eggs on sale, then pass the ramparts of the ruined house, enjoy the stunning gardens and see the Irish version of the Lost Gardens of Heligan except the trees are better and you are only about 1000 metres from the magical “Teddington" known locally as “Tidedington" on the banks of the tidal River Nore.

This is a seriously secluded retreat in a unique setting with a splendid stand of beech, oak, ash, laurel and pine on the far side of the river. Fish the famous salmon pool, where the largest salmon caught in the last 20 years, a stunning 32 pounder, swam past to be caught further up the Nore.

Sit on the river side bench and have your sundowners watching wild life such as otters, hares, pine martens and if you are fast, the flashing kingfisher. Wave to the boats and kayaks or the passing New Ross Galley

The Hansel and Gretel cottage was built as part of the Desmesne in the late 1790's but redesigned modernized and extended in 2001 by a former Chairman of the Crafts Council of Ireland. Teddington is available for weekly rentals, but if it's a shorter break you seek, please check out The Boat House B&B (also on this site) which is inivisible to Teddington yet right next door...

Every morning open the doors of the master bedroom and go onto your balcony and listen to the dawn chorus, then have your breakfast at the Kilkenny limestone table on the patio as you bask in the morning sun, then at night light your BBQ and spend the night watching the stars.

The three spacious bedrooms with different characters are en suite have, with king sized double beds all three with showers but the blue room also has a bath.

There is a cozy sitting room with lots of books as you cuddle up to the log fire, play Scrabble or bridge, or if needs be you can switch on the TV with all the normal channels and a DVD player. The sofa can drop down to a small single bed.

However we suspect that you will spend most of your time in the main living area which is 30 feet long and 20 foot wide beneath the wooden beams and 20 foot ceiling, with wrap around panoramic treble glazed windows opening on to the patio.

The commissioned oak dining table sits comfortably beneath the 19th century wrought iron candelabra in a warm room with under floor heating, a wood burning stove and Oil fired Stanley cooker, which is better than an AGA as you can have both a bath and crispy roast potatoes at the same time.

Kilkenny Limestone fossil worktops give ample space in the kitchen area, fitted with dishwasher, macerator, microwave/grill and fridge freezer.

In the mud/utility room is a clothes washer and an additional sink.

Whether you decide to stay in or eat out you will do well as you have your own private restaurant is Bassetts which is our favorite, or in the village of Inistioge a mile walk down the scenic river where you can enjoy home cooked food in numerous restaurants but do try some of Theresa O'Hanlon's pastry in the School House Café. The local pubs are where you will find craic and hear tall stories of fish that got away over long pints.

If you decide to leave your idyll, which we doubt, Golf is available in Mount Juliet, New Ross or Gowran, horse riding, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and numerous walks both within and outside Woodstock are also on offer.

You are 30 minutes from both Kilkenny (where there is a farmers' market on Thursdays) and Waterford, both of which have much to offer. Follow both the 'Taste of Kilkenny' and the craft trail to Thomastown and Bennetsbridge which are about 15 minutes away.

Visit New Ross and the famous Dunbrody famine ship, the Ros tapestry or the Kennedy family home in Dunganstown or the sea at the Hook, it all there, up to you!!!!
