Kenmare Valley Retreat: Kerry

The drive to Kenmare Valley Retreat takes you through rolling green hillsides and traditional Irish villages of South West Ireland, past glimpses of a waterfall and rugged coastline. It’s a journey towards adventure.

Kenmare Valley Retreat was originally a priest’s residence for the adjacent church built circa 1895. Sympathetic renovations by its current owners have maintained some of the original features, turning it into a modern family residence and creating a home that is both impressive and welcoming. There are breath-taking views of the unspoilt countryside from every window.

This charming detached holiday home can sleep up to 6 adults and 2 children in 4 bedrooms. The two-wing layout provides a luxurious retreat for extended families or a stylishly practical solution for a group of couples holidaying together but wanting some personal space. One wing contains a spacious double bedroom, a bathroom with rain shower and bath, and a large children’s bedroom with 2 single beds. The other wing holds an elegantly furnished en-suite double bedroom and an en-suite bunkroom (these full-size beds are suitable for 2 adults if necessary).

Downstairs, there is a spacious, contemporary kitchen with a log burner. A warm and cosy sitting room is perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset over the Kenmare Valley, perhaps accompanied by a glass of local Bertha Gin. The kids can work off any last bit of energy in the children’s playroom before retiring to their comfy bedrooms.

Outdoors, the property has 3 acres of mature gardens to relax in and woodland to explore – don’t be surprised to see deer roaming through the trees or into the garden. The house and its magnificent location provide the perfect backdrop for a family holiday, a celebration for a special occasion, or a friends’ reunion.

Kenmare Valley Retreat is one of County Kerry’s hidden gems, nestled in the Kenmare Valley between the Caha Mountains and the Macgillycuddy Reeks Mountains. In the nearby town of Kenmare, stop for a pint of Guinness in one of the many traditional Irish pubs or indulge in a tasty bite to eat in one of the friendly restaurants; there is a small market on Wednesdays. There is plenty to explore along local walks and cycle routes including the highest concentration of historical and prehistoric monuments in Western Europe. Discover the Bonane Heritage Park, Kenmare Falls, and explore 2,500km of the breathtaking coastal road on the Wild Atlantic Way.

You are also in the perfect spot to reach the stunning Beara Peninsula, where you can treat yourself to some fresh fish, get adventurous in Killarney or discover some beautiful gardens in Glengarriff. Golfers will be in their element with plenty of scenic clubs nearby.
