Property Overview

This charming self-catering cottage for two is situated on one-half acres on the same property as the owner's residence. You will enjoy your privacy in this lovely cottage which has been rated by the Guardian Newspaper as one of the special places to stay in Ireland.

Amelia's guidebook titled "My Connemara Journeys and Favourite Walks" is a compelling read. Amelia, a native of Connemara, presents seven carefully selected journeys through the landscape of Connemara that are dear to her heart and shares them with us in this beautiful book. The seven journeys represent one journey for each day of the week. "The idea for my guidebook is that the readers get insights into the fascinating people who lived in Connemara, visit my favourite off-the-beaten track gems that the average tourist never sees, and to suggest places where you can enjoy afternoon tea, a creamy pint or a picnic on one of the many sandy beaches dotted along the coast."

What was once an isolated landscape ravaged by poverty has now become the destination for nature-lovers, mountain-climbers and other sports enthusiasts alike. Excellent restaurants are in abundance, and the choice of accommodation ranges from simple bed-and-breakfasts to world-renowned luxury castles.

Amelia Joyce, the owner of this luxury property, loves all things Italian. Foreign accents, notably Italian and Mexican, bestow warmth to this charming lakeside retreat.

Rough plastered walls and a rich palette dictated by oriental rugs, show off works of art, pottery and ceramics collected from around the world.

The big sitting room has sink-in armchairs before a lovely turf fire. A selection of books to choose from. In the generous bedroom, the bed linen is luxuriously Italian. French doors and windows open to garden vistas and the waters of Lough Corrib.

Absolutely beautiful cottage that allows the most picturesque escape. It is like something out of a movie.

We spent a week in Apr/16 at Jasmine Cottage - using it as a base to see the Connemara area of Ireland. Amelia's knowledge, insight, humor and suggestions were like having our own travel guide for a part of Ireland one must see. We took her advise on most day excursions. Amelia has a draft of a travel guide in the Cottage for the area which was very helpful and we often used to plan our sightseeing. Her passion is understandable, Connemara is breathtaking. The cottage worked well for two of us. We ate in most nights and had a couple of stay at home days. Amelia's taste and care shows - this feels like a home. She generously provided breakfast materials for a few days and 2-3 nights material for fires. Things like wi-fi, heat (no extra charge) etc worked well - neither a guarantee unfortunately in some places. Only turned the TV on twice for some Masters golf (thank you BBC, since there are no sports channels). Heartily recommend.

"Autumnal delight" peaceful oasis set amidst the dramatic backdrop of Ireland's rugged West coast. Stayed for 5 nights with the family and kids. A beautiful experience overall

This is probably the most beautiful cottage for 2 that you will find in Ireland (if you have already spent hours looking stop now - you have found it!). The setting and views are just as wonderful as they look in the photographs.
Amelia has very good taste so there really is nothing to dislike. The quality of the furnishings is excellent - the bed in particular is really comfortable. We loved staying here and loved Connemara. The only thing we did not realize is how dependent we would be on driving everywhere - the small town of Oughterard is a 10 minute drive (you do have to drive very slowly as quite a twisty road - and a bit too dangerous to walk along). On the other hand the setting is blissfully quiet (no road noise at all). There is the most magnificent scenery all around so it would be shame not to get out and explore. From Oughterard we took a boat trip across Lough Corrib to Cong (had afternoon tea at Ashford Castle - expensive but wonderful) so we would recommend that for days when you don't want to drive too far.

Jasmine Cottage is the perfect place to stay for a memorable Connemara vacation! The cottage is thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated w/ comfortable furniture and charming ambiance that feels just like your Irish 'home'. There is a lovely view out and a lawn area with table and chairs for dining alfresco. The cottage is located just a short drive from the most delightful Connemara village, Oughterard filled with vibrant pubs that feature authentic Irish music, gourmet restaurants, 2 supermarkets, several cafes and butchers w/ prepared meals to go. It is an easy 30 minute drive to the vibrant city of Galway filled with every kind of shopping, eating, drinking and entertainment. Galway's young population has a pulse that's very different from the quiet dramatic landscapes of the countryside so the contrast makes for a memorable varied experience .
All that being said, the most delightful aspect of Jasmine Cottage is the charming and personable owner that will greet you with a wealth of information to make your holiday a complete success. Amelia is like your 'Auntie Mame' with books, maps and writings, unique suggestions and clever itineraries that you can use (I suggest you do) or not but will open a world of Connemara that you would otherwise miss. The cottage is just the right location for at least 5 great day trips, and Amelia will happily make suggestions or reservations (if asked) to unique places that only someone who grew up here, travelled the world and the returned home would know how unique and special they are. Not to be missed, Delphi Lodge, Cong, Clifdon, Roundstone, Kylemore Abbey Gardens.
Connemara is as a dramatic a landscape as you could imagine and as unspoiled as you might hope for; each vista takes your breath away. No doubt, this is the part of Ireland you would not want to breeze through in a short quick visit but rather linger and get the true sense and unique charms of this area and it's personable residents.

First off, Amelia thank you so very much for your dedication to ensuring our trip was memorable. My wife and I were fortunate to have your expertise available when planning out our escapes. Every recommendation we followed was most excellent. Your travel book was our key to success during our visit. There is absolutely no way we could have planned out a more in-depth trip to Connemarra if we had tried. If you are reading this review considering going here, just do it. I promise you will not regret it, and Amelia ensures you want nothing during your stay. Slainte!

Amelia's lovely cottage was the perfect beginning to our two week trip. It was even more beautiful than in the photos. The perfect spot to see Connemara and with Amelia's help, you won't miss a thing. Thank you, Amelia, for a wonderful week. We will return.

We very much enjoyed our 6 nights stay in this wonderful cottage. Very comfortable, clean, and oh so quiet with rarely more than the sound of birds and wind. Nice view of the lake, too. Amelia was readily available with tips of where to go and what to see and her take along book of journeys provided great information. I would love to return some day!
