Conwy, a World Heritage Site, is unquestionably well-known around the world for its historical and architectural legacy, yet the centre of the town is a hive of busy activity. Conwy Castle, which was constructed for King Edward I between 1283 and 1287, is still regarded as one of the finest examples of mediaeval military construction. The castle's unusual, elongated shape—complete with two barbicans, eight enormous towers, and a large bow-shaped hall—was likely influenced by the castle's location on a small rocky outcrop.
