If you’re fond of the finer things in life, this traditionally-styled apartment with views over Loch Ness is a winner. Set in a Grade A-listed, gorgeously Gothic former monastery, there are high ceilings, big windows and oak panels to marvel at. Period pieces mix with modern luxuries — the underfloor heating in the bathrooms is very welcome during the Scottish winter — to create a refined but relaxed home. We have our eye on the cosy tartan armchair, with possibly the best view in the house. We’re sure you’ll find yourself sitting there, watching the light change over the loch. You’ll be staying on a luxury estate with some fabulous facilities available upon request — a swimming pool, sauna, gym, tennis court, archery, croquet and, of course, a giant chessboard. There’s a restaurant on-site, but you’re also just minutes from the centre of the pretty village of Fort Augustus, where you’ll find pubs and restaurants and a local supermarket, as well as a 9-hole golf course and some beautiful walks.
Home truths: *This is a serviced apartment on a luxury estate
*Both bedrooms can be arranged as super-king doubles or twin bedrooms
*There is an option for a single roll-out children's bed in one of the bedrooms, although it comes at an additional cost
*Though there is a communal swimming pool, gym, sauna, and tennis court on-site, these are operated by a separate organisation and are not part of the apartment. You may be able to use them upon request by booking a slot with the organisers. Please speak to your host for more details.
