This place is incredible. The setting is quite impressive, up high on the banks of the Blackwater River. By the way, the river experiences tidal flows. There are swans, egrets and herons to delight you as you gaze across the water. We stayed in the “ larder” which is behind the main house. It was quite roomy with a living room, dining area, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and a magnificent claw foot tub for soothing soaking. Barbara and Nicolas are lovely people who work very hard at keeping this national treasure in good shape. The gardens are quite beautiful. We walked down to the river and enjoyed wine, cheese and stunning sunsets. Their two black labs are precious and followed us as we explored the property. Before we checked out, Barbara treated us to a tour of the main house. She regaled us with stories of her ancestors. Fascinating! The entrance looks like a miniature Taj Mahal. Incidentally, the King of England was denied entrance onto the Dromana estate due to lack of an entrance “ticket”! The town of Cappoquin is close by, and not too difficult to get to. Treat yourself to authentic Ireland and stay at Dromana House.
