Cottage in South Wales: Monmouthshire

Set on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park with far reaching views across to the Black Mountains, this beautiful Elizabethan manor steeped in history is simply perfect for families and friends wanting to relax and spend time together. It is surrounded by the park and farmland of Llanover Estate. Guests could also enjoy a visit of the magnificent private gardens if arranged prior to your visit.. Enjoy locally sourced produce from the cafe on the estate too. For walkers, there is a wealth of walking from your door; join the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal for a lazy stroll or tackle The Blorenge (4.5 miles) and Skirrid (5 miles). For a traditional family day out, The Big Pit at Blaenavon (6 miles), Brecon Mountain Railway (22 miles) and Zip World Tower (30 miles) are all worth a visit. Abergavenny is just 3 miles away, a vibrant market town with a variety of shops and memorable places to eat and drink, with a good supply of Michelin Guide restaurants. Further west lies the quaint market town of Crickhowell (8 miles). Cross the courtyard into the flagstone hall. To the right is the 17th century hall with original panelling and deep window seats, a second sitting room with a wood burner. Next to this is the games room with more deep sofas, a Smart TV and a second wood burner. A table tennis table creates a space for family or friends to enjoy each other s company. A small study provides the perfect place for checking emails if the need arises. The right of the cross passage dates back to the 16th century; it s now a panelled dining room with a generously sized table and chairs to seat 12 if required. The spacious kitchen is well equipped for the best of chefs and has a table ideal for your morning coffee. A flagstone porch on the garden side of the property works perfectly for muddy boots and holds a plentiful supply of free firewood for the wood burners. There is also a cloakroom with a WC. The steep original staircase which curves around the central hearth leads from the sitting room offering guests the choice of two bedrooms finished with beautiful interiors. The master bedroom has a wonderful four poster king size bed, and the chaise longue at its foot creates a sense of luxury. The stylish twin room (that can be made into a super king size on request) is generously sized and there s a luxurious en suite shower and bathroom. Completing this wing is a smaller family bathroom. A second staircase gives guests the choice of another two beautifully finished bedrooms: a spacious twin bedroom that has zip and link beds (which can be made into a super king size on request), a sofa at the foot of the bed, an adjoining nursery, and an en suite bathroom; and another twin with zip and link beds (that can be made into a super king size on request). The former has a window seat with views of the garden to the mountains beyond, and the latter has views across the garden and parkland beyond. Both bedrooms have access to the large family shower room. Outside, guests can entertain in the gardens, with seating and a BBQ for al fresco dining, and garden games including a croquet and badminton set to enjoy on the extensive lawn.
