Clomantagh Castle is part of a unique settlement of tower house, farmhouse and bawn.
The medieval tower, dating back to the 1430s, is linked to the beautifully restored early 1800 Victorian farmhouse on ground and first floor by doors that magically allow guests to travel in time between two periods of history. A mixture of simplicity and rustic charm, Clomantagh also features a Sheela-na-gig - a symbolic pagan nude carved on one of the stones.
The castle kitchen and a bedroom are located in the tower house - a medieval turret stone staircase leads from the kitchen to the main bedroom.
The property ground floor hosts a cosy living room with open fire and wooden floor; a large dining room/kitchen with beams and flagstone floor; one double bedroom and a shower room with toilet. The first floor features two double bedrooms (one with royal cast iron four poster bed), a twin room and two bathrooms of which one with roll-top bath.
Central oil heating throughout.
Listed building restored by the Irish Landmark Trust.
"Our buildings were made to the standards of earlier times – and sometimes without the intention that they should be lived in. Consequently you may encounter features that reflect their particular character but that deserve due care and attention, particularly by the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. Examples of these are steps worn with age, uneven surfaces, low ceilings and beams, unexpected drops or changes in level, and by modern standards low or absent lighting. In all cases we have sought to make a sensible compromise between due regard for safety and the careful retention of the fabric of each building, which makes it an interesting place to stay. We ask you to appreciate and use the building with this understanding, and recommend you read the information in the Guest Book in the property."
An amazing place to stay for a large family or a group of friends - so comfortable, full kitchen, games and books to relax in front of the fire, lovely touches throughout! And such interesting history and grounds to explore!

This is a great place for people who love middle ages history and/or Victorian history. The chance to sleep in a castle was so fun! Phyllida made sure the place was completely ready for us, and included some great local information. We really enjoyed this as a home base to explore the area!

This is different from any other accommodation we have ever used. If you are looking for a unique experience you will ever have. From the opening of 3 gates to park your vehicle to the layout of the rooms to the horses in the yard, everything was rustically magic. If you want spotless and modernly comfortable it might not be for you. But if you want clean and an experience of older hospitality I would unhesitatingly recommend it.
