Known as the "heart" of the English Riviera, where the climate is mild and palm trees thrive, Newton Abbot is a popular tourist destination. The historic marketplace has been replaced by a contemporary shopping district with a wide variety of stores, including six supermarkets carrying well-known brands. Additionally, there is a racetrack that hosts National Hunt races from spring through fall and winter craft fairs. The tap house and bottle shop in Newton Abbot is a one-of-a-kind pub housed in what was once a traditional working malthouse and serving some of the best bottled beers in Devon. Beachgoers can easily reach the wonderful family-friendly communities of Teignmouth, Shaldon, and Dawlish. Have fun at Teignmouth's beach all day long, where you can also explore the historic Victorian Pier. The stunning beaches around Torquay and the many hidden coves like Meadfoot, Oddicombe, and the further afield pretty Ness Cove are sure to be the highlight of your stay. A popular section of the South West Coast Path runs from Torquay Harbour to Daddyhole Plain, and it passes through Beacon Cove, where Agatha Christie used to swim when she was younger. You can't find a better place to start your English seaside holiday than in lovely Newton Abbot.
