The Restaurant

High beamed like a church the dining room, converted from the former stables, is headed by a wood burning grill where meats are cooked over ambers. Open for dinner from mid March to the end of October Tuesday to Saturday.

Sitting on a promontory jutting out into Dunmanus Bay is Blairscove House. Surrounded by 4.5 acres of lawns and gardens, Blairscove is the ideal place to spend a few relaxing days.

Built around 1760, adjacent to ancient fortifications guarding the West Cork coastline, it saw a succession of fifty owners over the next 200 years. Since 1972 however, it remained in the hands of the same family and Philippe and Sabine De Mey, the present owners, have continued the work their parents began.

The finely restored courtyard with cobbled paths, lily pond, shrubs and flowers has become the centre of it all. The former out houses contain four beautiful guest apartments as well as the restaurant, with its magnificent dining room converted from the old stable block.

For the active, the Mizen Peninsula's sandy beaches are just a short drive away and the Sheep's Head peninsula boasts miles and miles of scenic walks. Bantry, Schull, Ballydehob and Skibbereen with their festivals, pubs, shops and restaurants offer plenty of action, not forgetting the golf courses of Bantry and Glengariffe which are amongst the most scenic you will ever play.

The pace is slow, the people are friendly. Pubs are plentiful and the food is wholesome and fresh. Above all you will discover a place, which is cosmopolitan and sophisticated yet at the same time unspoilt and breathtakingly beautiful.

German, French and Dutch are spoken.

We stayed here for a night in one of the guest apartments which are used as self catering units. It was beautifully furnished and very welcoming, helped by complimentary sherry and home made biscuits. The bathroom had a large bath beside window overlooking the hills. We dined in the restaurant that night and it was without a doubt the best meal I've had in a very long time. We enjoyed a pre dinner cocktail in a separate part of the restaurant reading the menu. The buffet style starter table had so many little tasty delicate treats and fresh seafood including oysters. We loaded up our plates trying to leave room for the main course which was also perfect, and then back to another buffet style table for so many little deserts. We ate an awful lot of food over 3 hours and the attention to detail, service and ambience were just perfect. The staff make everything appear to just happen without any fuss. We had a wonderful sleep before a delicious breakfast was delivered to our room. I can't rave about the food enough, so original and so delicious. If you want to really treat yourself to a highly original place to stay and eat, look no further.

We really enjoyed our visit on our recent short stay at Blairscove. The Loft was a cosy space. Everything has been well thought out. What a treat to arrive and find milk and cookies, tea and coffee ready for us in our accommodation. Beautiful sea and countryside views all around. Having breakfast delivered to our room at an agreed time got us off to a good start in the morning. We would highly recommend this accommodation.

We stayed at Blairs Cove for one night as part of our honeymoon driving up the west coast. We loved the hideaway feel and the cosy and homely feel to our room, which was more like a mini-house compete with kitchen, sitting room and fireplace. Having breakfast waiting for us on our kitchen table was a lovely touch. We especially enjoyed the restaurant (check out the buffet starter and dessert table!) and spent the following morning walking along the nearby beach and surrounding area. Will definitely visit again if in the area.
