Area
In Lancashire, within the heart of Ribble Valley, there is a little village called Hurst Green that has ties to Stonyhurst College, a Jesuit institution, thanks to its past. The community is located along the River Ribble, close to its intersection with the River Hodder, 5 miles (8 km) from Longridge and 6 miles (10 km) from Clitheroe. Although many locations in the UK assert to have influenced J.R.R. Tolkien's creation of Middle Earth, the author undoubtedly spent a significant amount of time at Stonyhurst College writing on The Lord of the Rings during the Second World War. The 5.5-mile Tolkien Trail examines the Ribble Valley, which may have served as inspiration to the author, and many people have drawn links to the area's natural beauty.

Region
Benefitting from its Georgian capital city Lancaster, popular for its tourist attractions of Lancaster Castle, Williamson Park and the wonderful Way of the Roses cycling route, Lancashire offers a range of hidden gems you won't want to miss. With Blackpoo
