"Amazing, simply amazing!"
Unlike many expensive hotels, the staff is warm, welcoming, and the service is beyond compare, not at all snooty. The rooms are comfortable with great amenities. We had a lakeview room in the original 800 year old section of the castle. The view was mesmerizing. I could have just looked at it for days. I had to wonder what the original inhabitants would have thought about the heated bathroom floor, heated towel racks, and remote controlled shades etc!
Dinner in the George V was expensive, but quite good. We also had dinner in “The Cottage” one night. They have some specialties there that are made from recipes created by the owner of the castle. The spring rolls, and the “frozen Irish coffee” are not to be missed. Breakfast in the George V dining room is extraordinary. In the time we were there, we were unable to try everything they had, it was an enormous selection, but what we did have was uniformly excellent.
Each night we were there, the castle had live music in the drawing room across from the George V dining room. It is free, and we thought it was quite good, a delightful way to spend an hour or two after dinner.
The “hawk walk” was a delight. It provided a wonderful education, and an extraordinary experience. It is extra, and must be reserved, but it is very much worth the price.
Overall, five stars, only because there is no way to rate it higher!
