10 Bridge Street: Kerry

Reopening Febuary 2022

10 Bridge Street

When first opened as a restaurant in 2006, what is now '10 Bridge Street' was then called 'Sol y Sombra'. The Foley family, who established and ran for 30 years the famous 'Nicks Restaurant' next door, purchased the property from the Church of Ireland in 1996 opened one of Ireland's first Tapas bars. At that time good quality casual dining was relatively new to Ireland and the Foleys had a long-standing passion for Spanish food and tapas in particular.

Upon first opening under the name 'Sol y Sombra' in 2006, the new 10 Bridge Street Restaurant will be an exciting and reimagined experience for all. The Foley family who established and ran the famous 'Nicks Restaurant' next door for 30 years purchased the property from the Church of Ireland in 1996. They opened this unique building as one of Ireland's first Tapas bars. At that time good quality casual dining was relatively new to Ireland and the Foleys had a long-standing passion for Spanish food and tapas in particular. The Sol y Sombra team have established a respected reputation and received multiple awards over the years.

"16 years on and Ireland is a different country in terms of food quality and choice. With so many great food producers closer to home, the time is right to make a change for our customers, team, the environment and to add another chapter to this building's long history…"

The team look forward to evolving as 10 Bridge Street, and although the wine list and cuisine may change, the service and commitment to exceptional service and flavour will not change.

From start to finish the meal was outstanding and staff couldn't do more to look after you and make you feel welcome. Set in a beautifully refurbished 200+ church with stained glass windows, it takes your breath away as you walk in.

Starters were delicious, I could have happily eaten a huge plate of the mixed croquettes alone, but the sweet peppers stuffed with cod and hake starter had a sauce that we had to ask for a bread basket to mop it all up.

Mains were chicken cadiz and the beef cheek. Chicken luxuriously coated in gratinated gouda and toasted almonds, and beef that was so tender you could eat it with a spoon. The chicken dish doesn't come with its own vegetables or accompaniments which is a shame, but there are plenty of options to choose and add to it.

Had a very well made and delicious buttermilk panna cotta to finish along with a lemon polenta cake which was slightly overcooked and dry, but still quite nice. We finished our evening by moving outside with a tasty jug of fresh sangria and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor terrace that Sol y Sombra has to offer. Very reasonably priced overall and well worth booking in advance as this place is busy!

Thank you very much for such a lovely evening. Your reputation is well deserved.

Our meal at Sol y Sombra was outstanding. The tapas and main courses were all delicious. The old Church of Ireland is beautifully renovated and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The whole experience was fantastic.

Fabulous restaurant in an old refurbished church in the heart of Kilorglin. The food is absolutely wonderful. Great choice, amazing flavours and perfect portions. Loved every morsel! The staff are fantastic too. Highly recommend this place. Can’t wait to go back!

We brought our 3 kids here yesterday. Great food, great service, great value. All loved their meals and emptied their plates. What an amazing atmosphere for any family to dine here- I would recommend it to any family. It was such a treat. Don't visit Killorglin and not experience eating in sol y Sombra.

"Incredible! Great food, great vibe, great drinks"
What a damn gem. Their menu is limited but absolutely excellent. We had four tapas, two salads and small plates, then shared the large plate meatballs. Finished off with the chocolate fondant which was OUT OF THIS WORLD.

We opted for cocktails which was great, but they have an amazing wine list too.

"Really good would recommend"
I was here for a wedding last year and I found it quite good. The food was nice and the bar service was also good. I wasn't waiting long to be served. The staff were also helpful. The venue itself was also interesting. It looked like an old church. I must try to find out more about it.

I should stress that as I was there attending a wedding we had a 3 course meal. I did not have tapas. I'm not sure what tapas is.

"Worthy five stars"
From the moment you walk up the lane to the entrance, the music on the way gets you in the mood for seriously good and authentic tapas. We were not disappointed in any way. The setting food and service were excellent throughout. The restaurant and bar are very well set up and the wine and food menu is superb. Lovers of proper cocktails will also be thrilled as was my daughter and the prices are fair for the superb quality. This restaurant is the easiest to recommend and is worth the journey. We will be returning very soon and look forward to trying other tapas on the menu that we were too full to attempt. Excellent management and team, please please please keep it up !!

"To die for!"
We stopped here one evening as we were passing through Killorglin. Best decision ever. The restaurant is located in an old church building and was a beautiful setting. Tapas were excellent, we had 6 different dishes all were to die for except the shrimp. Service was very good. Will definitely be back.
