"Outstanding Food in an Elegant Atmosphere"
We ate two consequtive nights at The Maigue, the restaurant in the Dunraven Arms Hotel. The food is outstanding, with meat cooked perfectly, and the vegetables (small potatoes, carrots, turnips, broccoli, parsnips) are so delicious as to tempt one to become a vegetarian. The first night the service was slow, but I think there had been a disaster in the kitchen in that we heard a tremendous crash of what sounded like stacks of dishes falling down. But the host was well aware of the delays and did his best to make it up to the diners. On the second night, the proprietor of the hotel, "Louie," was in command and everything went like clockwork. "Louie" was actually slicing the prime rib from the serving cart himself, perfectly. The desserts are also very good--try the Wexford berries with cream. Reservations are a must, and the prices are in line with some of the smaller restaurants in Adare.
