Derry and Sallyanne Clarke opened Five-Star l'Ecrivain Restaurant in July 1989. This award winning Dublin restaurant stands on the site of two old Georgian Coach Houses/Mews in its own charming courtyard.

The first Michelin Star was awarded in 2003 & l'Ecrivain has been awarded a Michelin Star every year since.

Yes, great service and great food"" From booking to dining to enjoying dessert and departing. The table service was as good as I have experienced to date in Ireland. The waiters and waitresses explained the menu accurately. The food quality and presentation is what you would expect from this standard of the restaurant. Certainly easy to enjoy.

"How a restaurant should be run" What can i say? Food perfection Service perfection Drinks perfection. This restaurant is an institution on hospitality and every one of the euros you will spend here represent value. Hats off to derry and sallyanne

"Sublime food and wonderful service" Super restaurant for a special occasion. The bar downstairs is tranquil and a great place for a pre dinner cocktail to relax and get in the mood for what's to come. The main dining room upstairs is airy and well decorated. Tables are well spaced out and generous with comfortable seating. The food is absolutely top class and the service is attentive, polite and friendly without being overbearing or intrusive. We (two people) had starters of seared tuna with tuna tartare which was excellent and poached lobster with seared white asparagus that was equally good. For mains we both had the lamb rump which was cooked medium rare and was simply outstanding. It had a beautiful but subtle "gamey" lamb taste and a texture that was akin to really good fillet steak. The lamb was accompanied by artichoke which was perfectly cooked and flavoured. I highly recommend L'Ecrivain for a special occasion.

Try the taster menu (with the sommelier's wine choice) We were looking forward to this for a few weeks. Turned up early and weren't left standing; instead we were shepherded to their bar while the table was prepared. The restaurant is nicely decorated, with a variety of styles. I was particularly impressed with both the sizes of tables (large) and the overall layout, giving good space between tables. The waiting staff were very attentive and - a nice touch - asked us to tell them if we wanted the dishes to progress faster or slower. I call it a nice touch, as we had the early 18:30 sitting and I know they had another sitting at 20:30, but didn't mention it. (Most restaurants let you know they have another booking at X o'clock, immediately putting me off as soon as I've walked in. Not L'Ecrivan). Each of the courses was beautifully presented, tasted lovely, and was accompanied by wines suggested by the sommelier. I found little to quibble with, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, if a tad expensive (as mentioned above, it was a treat, so we went in with eyes open!). I would recommend it to anyone who wants fine dining.

Today restaurant was open for lunch. I was a lucky mum to eat there with my family for "Mother's Day" We had an unhurried pleasant few hours to chat, eat decicious food, drink a bottle of wine and have our every need attended to by the superb waiting staff.
