Property Overview

This luxury classical residence is one of the most distinguished, early 19th century examples of country houses in County Wexford.

Designed in 1840 as a magnificent Italianate mansion, the house proudly retains most of its original Victorian features, elegant decor and reminders of its glorious past.

From the cast iron, half moon entrance gates and up the long sweeping avenue, visitors pass the working farm, stable yard and the private lake before reaching the front of the house, where they are greeted by a magnificent portico of Wicklow granite rising over the front entrance.

Guests are welcomed into the house through the grand entrance hall flanked by two impressive Corinthian columns. From there the drawing room offers an opportunity to relax and unwind stepping back in welcoming old-world charm.

The rich red dining room exudes a country house grandeur of bygone years, where guests enjoy their evening meal in a timeless candlelit atmosphere.

Upstairs all five uniquely decorated ensuite bedrooms are filled with beautiful antiques and each room enjoys wonderful views over the surrounding parkland and countryside. All rooms have old days large comfortable beds with luxury Irish linen. The superior rooms enjoy ensuites with large baths and showers, and the two deluxe rooms have either a shower or a bath.

The seclusion and privacy of having so few rooms make Ballinkeele the perfect destination for a romantic getaway or exclusive honeymoon break in Ireland.

The evening 3 course set menu and the earthy breakfast are prepared by Val and Laura using naturally produced ingredients and locally sourced meat and fish, accompanied where possible, with fresh fruit and vegetables from the house garden.

Once you will have made yourself comfortable in Ballinkeele, you are going to find it hard to want to go outside, but do still remember to make the most of the house wonderful gardens and the house stunning location to enjoy Wexford's "Sun, Sea & Strawberries" and everything else that the area has to offer!

Ballinkeele is licensed to sell wine and has a good cellar with many fine wines to choose from.

"Heavenly self catering"
Visited the self catering stable cottage at Ballinkeele House for a 2 night stay in July and wished we had stayed for longer. The stable cottage is located a short distance from the main house and has everything you could possibly need for self catering. There is an extremely well stocked kitchen diner on the ground floor with a separate comfortable lounge. Upstairs there is a bathroom and 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin, both looking out over the gardens. The cottage has its own private walled garden to the rear, we were encouraged to held ourselves to the raspberries growing in the garden. There is also a barbecue, making the garden perfect for summer dining.
In addition there are the gardens of the main house and 2 additional walled gardens to explore. The location is a little off the beaten track so a car is necessary, but its an excellent location for exploring Wexford. If you are looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings this is the place to stay.

"Wonderful retreat"
We had the opportunity to stay overnight in this glorious house before embarking on our driving tour of Ireland. The picturesque drive from Dublin Airport to Ballinkeele was a great start to a lovely stay. Val, Laura and family were there to greet us and show us their house. Grand bedroom, king size bed with superb linens and a beautiful view. A "light " supper was served in the library, I couldn't finish all the wonderful local cheeses, and the home made soup was delightful. I can't emphasize enough how welcome they made us feel, the only regret was we didn't stay for a few more days to truly unwind before embarking on our adventure.

"Wonderful place"
We stayed for a night in April at the end of our trip. The private house is about 20 minutes outside Wexford and in a huge private park area. You hear no noise which is stunning and such a nice treat to the hassle of hotels in a city. Laura is a fantastic host who shows you around that fantastic house from the 18th century. You can enjoy a yummy supper in the dining room with a cosy fire burning and relax in the drawing room drinking a whiskey. ... overall it is very relaxing and Laura makes one feel really at home. It is that friendly and kind touch in combination to the stunning surrounding in this old mansion that makes a stay at Ballinkeele house a truly remarkable experience.

"The perfect spot to relax and unwind. Great for a small family"
We stayed in the stable cottage recently and could not have been more impressed. It's a charming property located just a stone's throw from Ballinkeele house- spotless, spacious and well appointed with its own private garden. Our host, Laura, is one in a million. She went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. We're so grateful for all that she did. The main house is absolutely wonderful too- can't recommend enough!

"Terrific weekend"
We had a terrific weekend in Ballinkeele to celebrate a significant family birthday. We were welcomed to the house by proprietors Laura and Val and had a guided tour of the historic house which has been lovingly maintained and restored. The bedrooms are attractive and comfortable but it is the overall atmosphere of the house which is the star. Also, the proprietors seem to know exactly when to appear and disappear. The house is set on a working farm, so there are options for strolling around the grounds. The food was very good and the honour system at the bar seems to work well. A great place for a weekend retreat. Recommended.
