Bantry House: Cork

Dating back to the 17th century, Bantry house is an historic private estate situated just outside Bantry in County Cork, a picturesque fishing and market town on the Atlantic coast.

Bantry House offers elegant bed and breakfast accommodation with views over the estate's magnificent gardens and Bantry Bay.

Guests can enjoy freshly cooked breakfasts and access to the mansion house and garden.

This area of Ireland is rugged and remote with traditional Irish villages dotted along the coastline. Bantry is the gateway to the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, while the Mizen and Beara peninsulas offer unique day trips.

Among the many activities available locally are hiking, golfing, fishing, and sailing.

“A very cool experience” The Bantry House is one of the most unique experiences we've ever had. I truly recommend a night here to anyone touring this part of Ireland. You will feel like royalty in this massive house in the evening, when all the day visitors are gone. You can enjoy the honour bar, the massive fireplaces, and the library almost all to yourself. You'll also be able to tour the house with the owner and learn about the history of the house and the family who has owned it for centuries. Breakfast in the morning was a great pleasure, too. There are lots of stairs in the house, so it's not for those who have trouble with stairs. A short walk down the driveway (little less than 1/2 mile) will take you into town for dinner or pubs.

“Wow, wow, wow” We did the public house tour which was great, entertaining and informative. Then they closed the house and shut the gates and we had the grounds to ourselves. The six B&B rooms had the run of one wing, tastefully renovated bedrooms and left alone to enjoy the majestic library and the billiards room. Then next morning a marvellous white linen breakfast buffet and cooked fare. Great, great, great stay! Thank you for sharing your Manor.

“My favourite place in the world (and I've been a lot of places).” As a traveler, people always ask you what or where you liked the best. There are many awesome places in the world. For me, I have a special place in my heart for the Bantry House. If I could, I would stay there forever. I wouldn't even call it a B&B, I think it is beyond that. It is an experience. For a brief moment, you actually can believe that you live there. There are only six rooms. In other words, very few guests in that big old house. You are free to walk around the gardens and tour the house. The gardens are spectacular. In the evening you feel like you almost have the house to yourself. You can make yourself a drink using the honour bar and take it into the library. A fire was made on both ends of the library. We sat at one end and another guest sat at the other end. I imagined that I lived there. Our room we had was spectacular. It overlooked the bay and the garden. It was turned into a family room and I greatly appreciated that. The breakfast was very good and more than just a usual european breakfast. The story of the house might be my favourite part. It has been in the same family for hundreds of years. We were hoping to see the same older man from our last trip, who was the owner and refused to let us carry our luggage. We were checked in by his daughter Sophie, who informed us that her dad passed away. We were sorry to hear that. This family has a lot of heart and determination. It takes a lot of work, money and time to keep this house going and I hope this family is able to keep it going forever.
