We had our wedding here are Fota Island Resort at the Clubhouse. We looked all around Cork for a venue that suited our needs. We wanted something that was intimate for us and our guests but also contemporary with a touch of luxury. Fota Clubhouse fitted the bill as it was convenient to us based in Cork City, surrounded by the beautiful Fota grounds but had all the facilities of a 5 star hotel.
1) The food was very important to us. We did not actually taste the menu itself as we are based in Australia but had others do it for us. Based on their recommendations we choose the menu and was stunned on the day of its quality, taste, preparation and presentation. Outstanding by all accounts. Many of the guests commentated on the food which pleased us as it was one of our main priorities for the day. Hats off to the chef for the day.
2) Staff on the day were fantastic. They could not do enough for us. We had fears that being a small wedding we would be forgotten about as they usually do weddings in the main hotel as well. This was not the case at all, in fact being in the Clubhouse meant that there was a much more personal touch and rapport between guests and staff. We also have to mention Vincent the clubhouse manager whom we met on the day and Helen events manger whom we were in contact with previously. All made an effort to make the day special for us.
3) The resort itself is beautiful and kept in tip top shape. There are nice walks to be had if you simply want to go out and about the place. The suite itself is one of the nicest if not the nicest hotel room I have stayed in and that would include our honeymoon. Great detail, great space and great amenities. The pool and spa pool are there to be used as well which we did and are very nice indeed. The finishings in the clubhouse are excellent as well. Intimate but plenty of space as well if people want to sit down and have a chat. The clubhouse after the meal was our own private space. Everyone enjoyed themselves and there was plenty of space on the dance floor even though we had a 7 member band to accommodate.
4) Wedding planning is stressful enough without having to encounter extra problems of someone else's making. Our initial consultation and enquiry was done professionally and personally. Unfortunately prior to our wedding day there were some staff changes which can just happen and is unavoidable sometimes. However, a number of things transpired then which made us fearful of the day not being set our to our own vision. We made our fears known and had a sit down with the John O' Flynn, the general manager of the resort. A quick a productive meeting ensued which allayed our fears and John true to his word took our fears on board, produced a plan of action and executed them to a tee, with the help of Helen and Vincent. The hallmark of good management is often solving problems before they become bigger problems and here the management and staff involved all played their part in making the day special for us. Execution of the day and communicating with other suppliers was all done with no issue. Even post checkout Helen messaged us her best wishes for the future and thanked us for the positive feedback. Outstanding service.
In summary, thank you to all the staff who helped us make our wedding the day that is was, a day to never forget and the best day of our lives. Anytime I will be back to Fota I will have fond memories of that day. Family and friends still talk to us on how great the day was even months after the wedding. I would recommend anyone to have a wedding here to experience a truely unique and special wedding.
