The Cow House: Wicklow

The Cow House, a converted luxury farmhouse, set in the rolling Hills of Wicklow has won several accolades for its contemporary design.

Restored from an old 19th century farm building, the two-storey luxury rental home, has been transformed into a unique hideaway.

Overlooking a quaint courtyard, the newly fashioned cow house is surrounded by renowned gardens, created by Julie Blake, and celebrated as one of the best in Ireland.

Inside, the open-plan living room features an open structure of exposed timber beams and rafters, with a raised kitchen at one end. The floor is a heated polished concrete floor cast from local sand and granite.

The distinctive modern theme is emphasised with the focal point of a timber wrapped island, in the kitchen, which conceals the washing machine and dishwasher.

The success of the airy, bright open-plan ground floor is achieved with glass sliding doors opening onto the farmyard.

Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms built as boxes set on stilts on a mezzanine level, with glass-walled shower rooms sandwiched between both bedrooms.

Glass walls let you look down to the floor below.

Winner of the 'BEST HOUSE' 2014 at the Architecture Ireland Awards- RIAI, The Cow House is an outstanding property both in terms of its distinctive architecture but also for its celebrated gardens.

Located approx. 5 km from Russborough House and Blessington with its renowned lakes, and a 30 minute drive from Dublin city centre, the house is the ideal location for exploring County Wicklow and all that this scenic area has to offer.

"I felt like a guest in a close friends home"
The Turkey House guest cottage, the grounds and gardens were just delightful, even in the rain. From the moment I arrived, I felt at home. Niamh and her family welcomed me with open arms. June and Niamh were perfect communicators and made sure all the details were thought of. A perfect Autumn visit and tour throughout Ireland. Blessington was the perfect location to begin my Irish adventure from. The Turkey house and it's lovely modern, simply and clean architecture with welcoming decor offers every comfort you may want in a home. I wish I could have stayed longer. I will definitely book again, soon I hope.

"A gardener's paradise"
Despite its unprepossessing name the Turkey House is quite amazing. An ultra modern renovation of part of an old farm building, the Turkey House is an ideal space for up to 5 people. My wife and I enjoyed the space and the comfort, even if at times we were rattling around a bit.

The reason for picking the Turkey House for our stay in Blessington was, of course, June Blake and her wonderful garden, and we could not have been made more welcome by both June and her son Dara.

When not taking advantage of unrestricted access to the garden the location was great for visits to several other gardens in the area, and after a day traveling the well equipped kitchen at the Turkey House meant we could whip up an easy supper, while relaxing with as much wine as we wanted!
