What a little gem! What a location! What food!!!!
This is a wonderful boutique hotel set in a magical location with fantastic facilities and excellent service from all the staff, from Duncan to Susie and Eva to the outstanding chef Damien. It is a perfect fit for couples.
In fairness, it is the superb food which sets this place apart from any other hotel in this category. We were fortunate to stay for two nights and sample two totally different tasting menus.Based on our experience of Michelin restaurants in Ireland and elsewhere, the quality of the food and service on both nights was easily Michelin star level.Particular highlights were the smoked cod with wild rice, the pork belly and the wood sorrel sorbet which were all outstanding.
Having said that the breakfast, while very good, is not on the same level as the evening food and could benefit from a little fresh thinking.
The rooms are super comfortable and authentic, the grounds are very well landscaped and kept and the leisure facilities are very good for a hotel of this size.
Notwithstanding my tiny quibble about breakfast this is easily the best food we have eaten anywhere in Ireland so my advice is get there before it takes off into the foodie stratosphere.
