Lisheen House: Clare

Lisheen House is a large modern spacious house covering three levels that can cater for large crowds comfortably.

The kitchen dining and sunken living room is all one area and covers over half of the ground floor area. Also on the ground floor there are two spacious bedrooms with queen beds. One has a full ensuite and the other has a small washroom with sink and toilet.

The next level which is again built on concrete floors for safety and noise reduction boasts an extra spacious living room with cut stone fireplace and a very large panoramic window with views of the Burren hills. Sunlight is a large feature in this room and is a great place to relax with a glass of wine and browse through some of the many books that are provided. Both living rooms have 32' flat screen tv's with separate satellite controls. The main bathroom and two more bedrooms are also on this level. One is twin and the other has a queen bed with its own ensuite.

The upper level has another twin and double bedroom and a washroom with toilet and sink. The house is centrally heated throughout and during the colder times, we provide wood for the open fires in both living areas.

All our fixtures and fittings are to a very high standard and we continually strive to maintain a high quality in the house.

The house is located midway between the beautiful coastal villages of Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare and Kinvarra in Co. Galway with an approximate distance of six miles to each village. Both villages offer a good choice of shops, restaurants ,pubs and craft fair and a farmers market is held one day a week in each village. However we are very lucky at Lisheen House to have a highly rated pub and restaurant that specializes in sea food only a few hundred yards from our door.

The local fisherman's wife Martina , runs a small fish shop on the pier behind the pub offering a selection of fresh shell fish every day and at weekends she has a selection of other fish such as seabass ,salmon ,plaice etc. A short distance from the pub is an art gallery and pottery shop where the pottery is made. One of the owners had her origins in Italy and offers for sale a choice of organic wines and food imported from Italy and mostly produced by her own family.

Within a half mile from the house is an area called 'The Flaggy Shore'. Here you have a small sandy beach, ideal for swimming and the start of a fabulous walking route along The Flaggy Shore where you can do a three mile loop taking the scenery of Galway Bay and passing by Lough Murree, a small fresh water lake, home to swans, ducks and other bird life and yet is only separated from the sea by not much more than 100 feet of land.

The house is ideally located for taking in all the scenery and attractions Clare and the surrounding counties have to offer. Galway, the City of the Tribes and the market town of Ennis are less than a forty minute drive while Shannon International Airport and Bunratty Medieval Castle and Folk Park are just an hour away.

Lisheen House – Lovely Comfortable Home; Beautiful & Convenient Location

Our family, all thirteen of us – eight adults and five children ages 3, 9, 11, 12, and 16 – thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lisheen House. Mary and Seamus were the most gracious of hosts from our first contact on the web to our reluctant leave taking of their home at the conclusion of our stay.

Lisheen House is large and accommodating, comfortably and tastefully furnished, and laid out in such a way as to provide for both large family gatherings around the table and private nooks for those moments when you need a quiet retreat. The upstairs lounge also was a wonderful place for the younger set to gather while the older folks enjoyed one another’s company downstairs. The house boasts a multitude of windows and skylights with different and magnificent views in all directions — the Burren Hills, the rolling fields, and Galway Bay.

Situated about forty five minutes from Galway City and ten minutes from the village of Ballyvaughan, Lisheen House sits at the portal of Burren National Park, is one green field away from Galway Bay, and about one hundred yards from Linnanes, a very fine restaurant pub. At Linnanes, you can sit inside or on the patio that overlooks the dock where the fishing boat that may have caught this evening’s diner may be berthed. One of the delights of Linnanes, besides its excellent food, is that it is truly a local place patronized mainly by locals. As a result we felt and were treated more like neighbors than tourists. That same sense was enhanced by the folks who were our neighbors, including the farmer across the road who stopped his tractor to chat with our three year old grandson and the folks behind us who rummaged about their garage to find a bicycle pump we were in need of.

We also enjoyed the Russell Gallery, a combination teahouse and gallery featuring local artists, that is about a half mile down the road. Just beyond the Russell Gallery is the Flaggy Shore where there is a serene walk several kilometers long along the Bay. Also along the Flaggy Shore there is a small and secluded beach where you can, and we did, take a dip in Galway Bay.

Lisheen House is a wonderful place for a large family gathering. For those who wish to wander it is convenient to all the treasures of Co. Clare and Co. Galway; for those who wish, for the nonce, to feel themselves part of a beautiful land and a friendly community, no place could be finer.

All thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I recommend it unreservedly.

"Great location and host"

We really enjoyed our stay at Seamus' house in September this year. Seamus is a great host and was very responsive to questions prior to our arrival. The house was great for our group, there is plenty of sleeping accommodation for large families and the kitchen is a great communal space for large groups. The location of the house was excellent; with the Flaggy Shore in walking distance and Linnanes restaurant at the end of the street.

"Excellent American “Friendsgiving” weekend!"

Perfect amount of space for three families - great layout of bedrooms and bathrooms. Open kitchen/sunken living room made spending time together cooking and chatting easy relaxing and never feeling crowded. Everyone LOVED the location - beautiful walks around Flaggy Shore and to grab a pint at Linannes across the street. Also easy drive to Ballyvaughan or Kinvara for restaurants and groceries.

Only caveat has nothing to do with the house but just to let visitors know that by late November many of the pubs and restaurants significantly reduce the days/hours they are open. Even if their website says they are open it’s best to call first to ensure it’s accurate.

Would definitely be interested in renting this property again! Seamus was so easy to work with and very accommodating to our changing schedule when I was making the reservation - Thank you!
