I have been here three times and usually, I write a romantic kind of review. This time, I'm going to write about the reality of love, the practical aspects and the little things.
The Cottages are exactly as they look in the photos. They are like flowers in Bloom inside and outside. The design is stunning and practical. There is absolutely no stress, it is serene and peaceful. Everywhere is beautiful. What's visually remarkable is how tastefully the location and cottages are restored. You have literally every modern convenience, clothed in charm. Once inside the other world that is The Cottages, all the trouble and conflicts of everyday life melt away. Trust me, it's instant.
I do yoga and found that once I come here, the inner joy absorbs into your bloodstream, regardless of the baggage you might have brought to the gates. Once they open and you see the view, those bags drop.
They are spotless, thoughtfully decorated and stocked. It's luxury all the way. I usually tour, but found myself reluctant this time, because everything paled in comparison to the view from my window, or the hypnotic aroma of the flowers outside my front door.
But here's the thing. It took my third stay to realise why I am so deeply happy here
It's not just the beauty, the kindness of Liz, Mel and Anna, it's also the fact that the cottages and spaces have been reading your mind. They have everything you need, the practical stuff, the endless warmth and comfort, the reading light above the chair, the way the window seats heat you as you look out at the cycle of nature. The sound of birds and waves as you sleep. Sometimes, it's the absolute soft silence. It's the moulded pillows, the huge comfortable bed, the basket of pampering goods by the bath, the underfloor heating. I could go on forever.
It's the only place I've ever been where everything you need is right there. On a lazy day you can do what I find very hard to do, and that is to just relax. Stay put, read one of the books, or guiltlessly do nothing.
There are many tangles in stress, they untangle here. The brass tacks of your relationship with your accommodation are all here and more, so indeed, you can indulge in romance. Love the gardens, love the cottage, love yourself and your mind, remember that life and love can be easy and beautiful.
I didn't even watch TV or buy a paper, because behind those brown gates you arrive at, there's a self contained world of beauty.
I fell in love with nature this time. I knew it would last too, because here there is a Kingdom of poetry, mystery, romance and soft water.
This is THE retreat. Take a chance, because this magic place will heal you. It just does. You just need to allow yourself to get here.
