Dunowen House: Cork

Dunowen House is set on the magnificent Wild Atlantic Way coastal route, close to Galley Head Lighthouse and 10 minutes drive from bustling Clonakilty town.
Kinsale, Cork City and Cork International Airport are all approximately 45 minutes drive from the house.

Originally built in 1771 for Colonel George Sandes, Dunowen House was famously the home of Noel Redding, bass guitarist for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The house is stocked with lots of Rock & Roll memorabilia and music for guests to enjoy.

Surrounded by mature pine and sycamore trees the 4 acre secluded garden includes a walled garden which supplies fruit, vegetables and eggs all year round.

Over the years Dunowen House has been lovingly restored to its former glory with many reminders of its illustrious past. This substantial luxury property is in the unspoiled village of Ardfield, with secluded Sands Cove private beach a five minutes walk from the door. Dunowen is ideally situated close to the magnificent Galley Head lighthouse.

Dunowen is perfectly located to explore all that magnificent West Cork has to offer including golfing, surfing, fishing, whale watching, bird-watching, horse riding, sailing, wind surfing and kayaking.

With over 5000 sq ft of living space the property offers three reception rooms, a fully fitted kitchen/dining area and a music and entertainment room. Upstairs there are six large bedrooms, all with stunning en-suite bathrooms.

Orchard Cottage in the walled garden adjoining Dunowen House is a 3 bed restored cottage that can sleep an additional 5 guests.

Additional in-house catering and cleaning services are available on request. Dinner parties are a popular choice with guests at Dunowen House.
Cots are also available on request.

Our party of ten travelled to Dunowen in the midst of Storm Desmond for the Clonakilty Marathon. We were a mixed group - teenagers and adults - and could not have had a more brilliant time despite the race being cancelled! Dunowen House must be the most welcoming and stylish self catering destination in Ireland. Stephen and Kela are born hosts and incredibly generous to boot. There are well stocked larder supplies as standard, log fires (no limit on logs), delicious catering if you want it and living rooms stacked full of books, cds, board games and even musical instruments. There were no fights over bedrooms and bathrooms because they are all large and comfortable and spotlessly clean. This is the way self catering should be and it was a privilege to stay there. Oh and the countryside is beautiful too......even underwater.

Dunowen House is the most amazing place. The history, the architecture, the comfort, the grandeur, the grounds - loved every minute! I went with 6 friends to celebrate my 60th birthday. Kela and Stephen (our hosts) provided a wonderful home-cooked meal on our first night which was delicious. Kela and Stephen are lovely, friendly and very helpful (offering advice on where to go and recommending restaurants etc). They live on the grounds of the House and are on hand when needed! Basically - I can't wait to return which I'm sure I will do more than once!. It's a true jewel in Cork's crown and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My partner and I were invited to a wedding party for a few days with the reception being held at Dunowen House. What a party! Both Kela & Stephen & family are very discerning hosts that offered exceptional hospitality in this rock star house! We will never forget this truly memorable priceless experience.
